Conclusions
The Rapid Rewards program is known to be very simple, as the number of points required for a flight is directly related to the fare, which usually makes it very easy to get great deals for those seasoned in travel.
Another thing that makes Southwest unique is the policy of canceling or changing flights without any charges if travelers find the same flights at lower prices, which is possible until the flight time. In addition to this, there is no worry about using the Southwest points because their expiry does not match up.
With even greater value, however, you can earn a Companion Pass by which a named companion can fly for free (without paying the ticket cost, except taxes and fees), be it on paid or award tickets. A Companion Pass is usually earned through 135,000 qualifying points or by taking 100 one-way qualifying flights in a calendar year. Welcome bonuses and credit card spending points do, however, count toward that requirement.
You can quickly get almost two years’ worth of buy-and-get travel by opening a Southwest business credit card in a year that you are planning to spend the money anyway. That’s because a Companion Pass is good through the remainder of the year it’s earned and the following year.
