Choice Hotels is giving everyone more time to complete their promotion introduced in the spring this year. The 2023 Spring Promotion rewards members who stay at least two nights at qualifying properties with at least 8,000 bonus points. You can either keep the points or get a $50 gift card for half off!
The original promotion was announced for stays starting March 27 and now ends this week on July 21. It’s an opportunity for those who have already completed their first stay to fit in one more qualifying stay and get rewarded with Choice Privilege points.
Stay 2 Nights and Earn Points
Choice Privilege Rewards members must complete two separate stays to qualify for the bonus points. Stays at the same property are acceptable; however, they cannot be consecutive nights to count for two different stays. Many of the 7,000 Choice Hotels worldwide participate in the promotion for eligible stays, except:
- WoodSpring Suites Hotels
- Ascend Hotel Collection all-inclusive resorts
- Properties location in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Latvia, Iceland, Estonia, Lithuania
There are also requirements for booking a room to count toward your two stays:
- You must be registered for the promotional offer here
- Must be booked on www.choicehotels.com, the Choice Hotel mobile app, or by calling directly at 800.4CHOICE.
- Rooms can be reserved through Book by Google, but you must provide your Choice Privilege number when booking
- Rooms must cost more than $40 per night
- Reward Night stays are excluded
- Excludes hotels booked through packages, tours, or employee discounts
Choice: 8000 Points or $50 Gift Card
With the promotion, members are guaranteed to earn at least 8,000 total points after completing their second stay. The total includes base points earned during booking and a bonus. Bonuses can range from 5,000 points to 8,000 points, so there are ways to maximize your total depending on how many base points you qualify for when booking. Here’s how to increase your base points earned:
- Be a Choice Privilege Rewards member – all members earn 10 points per $1 spent on Choice Hotels stays
- Have elite status – Elite status boosts how many base points you’ll earn based on the following percentages
- Gold 10% (10 nights per year)
- Platinum 25% (20 nights per year)
- Diamond 50% bonus (40 nights per year)
- Use Choice Privilege Credit Card – Cardholders get point multipliers on Choice Hotels spending
- CHOICE PRIVILEGES® MASTERCARD® (No Annual Fee) – Earn up to 16x points and includes complimentary Gold Status
- CHOICE PRIVILEGES® SELECT MASTERCARD® ($95 Annual Fee) – Earn up to 22x points and includes complimentary Platinum Status
The 8,000 points earned during this promotion are deposited into your account within 72 hours of completing your second stay. Members can redeem their points for a discounted $50 gift card during the promotional period only. The regular price is 16,000 points, but the price is cut in half to 8,000 points.
In addition to receiving a minimum of 8,000 points, registered membersalso have up to 60 days after the promo ends to redeem their points for a $50 gift card. It’s a gift card to use at any retailer, so it’s like getting cash back for your stay since you can’t book reward night stays for the promo. Choice Privilege points have an estimated value of 0.6 cents per point—8,000 points are valued at $48. The discounted $50 gift card gives either option at near equal value, regardless if you decide to keep the points or redeem for the gift card.
Alternatively, reward nights at Choice Hotels start at 8,000 points, so the bonus earns you a free night. Choice Hotels also have airline and hotel transfer partners, including:
Transfer Partner | Minimum transfer | Transfer Ratio |
Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan | 5,000 | 5:1 |
American Airlines AAdvantage | 5,000 | 5:1 |
Southwest Rapid Rewards | 6,000 | 6:1.8 |
United MileagePlus | 5,000 | 5:1 |
Radisson Rewards Americas | N/A | 1:2 |
The main difference between deciding for the points or gift card is where you can spend them. The gift card is as good as cash in your pocket, the points can be just as good if you’re planning future stays at Choice Privilege properties.
Bottom Line
There are a few days left to complete your stays for the promotion. Since it’s been active since March, the extension is mainly for travelers who didn’t have time to finish their second stay.
Choice Hotels advertises the promotion as a $50 gift card offer. However, the program terms and conditions confirm that members are rewarded with points and given the option to redeem for the gift card. Since you’ll receive at least 8,000 points, it’s equivalent to a free night or getting the $50 gift card at half price (normal 16,000 points).
If you completed a stay within the promotional period but weren’t yet registered, you have up to 60 days to submit a request to have any previous stays included.
