Attention! The elite qualifying points indicated in your email are based on your account status as of December 6, so the number of points will not be accurate if you have earned EQP since then.

Co-branded cardholders have an additional privilege – an additional 20% discount on points purchases, so it’s even more beneficial for such members, especially if you don’t plan any more stays this year and you don’t have enough to confirm or upgrade your elite status.

How to participate

  1. Receive an invitation
  2. Follow the link in the email where you can purchase the necessary points.
  3. Or you can check if you are a targeted recipient for this offer by following the direct link. Non-target participants will not see the offer after clicking on the link.
  4. The rules state that you can buy qualifying points only once. So think carefully about how many you need.

Terms and Conditions

A member may only make a singular points purchase under this promotion. Purchased EQPs (Elite Qualifying Points) will count toward a Member’s Year-To-Date EQP balance. The Member will have the opportunity to either maintain their current status or upgrade to the next tier.

How much does it cost to buy elite qualification points?

The cost of elite qualifying points depends on the quantity, the more you buy, the lower the price.

We have seen the following examples of offers:

  • 5,000 elite points cost $200 (or $160 with a 20% discount for credit card holders) – that’s 3.2-4 cents per elite point
  • 40,000 elite points cost $396 (or $495 with a 20% discount for credit card holders) – that’s 1,2-0.99 cents per elite point
  • 120,000 elite points cost $800 (or $640 with a 20% discount) – that’s 0.53-0.67 cents per elite point

Terms and Conditions

EQPs will be awarded upon completion of the transaction, and new elite status will be reflected within 5-10 business days after the purchase. Renewed and Upgraded status gained from the purchase of EQPs will be valid for the remainder of 2024 and all of the 2025 calendar year.

Let’s go back to the number of qualifying points required for each of the elite tiers.

  • Gold Elite – 40,000 elite qualifying points,
  • Platinum Elite – 60,000 elite qualifying points,
  • Diamond Elite – 120,000 elite qualifying points.

Please note that by upgrading your status in this way, you will not be able to access Milestone rewards (confirmed room upgrade, access to the club lounge and other) based on elite qualifying nights.

Other ways to obtain Ihg elite status

  • Issuance of IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card and IHG One Rewards Premier Business Credit Card and automatic receipt of Platinum Elite status
  • Participation in the paid InterContinental Ambassador program and obtaining Diamond Elite status

Conclusion

If you lack EQPs and have a goal to achieve diamond status (the most common reason is staying in luxury hotels with free breakfast for two), then this promotion is a lifesaver.
