I stayed three nights at InterContinental Hanoi Westlake, Vietnam. Though the hotel is not new, it is very comfortable, and the hospitality is great. It has a good ambiance and an awesome breakfast spread.
Booking and Upgrades
I had 2 separate bookings. The last two nights, I got upgraded to a suite worth US$347 a night with a confirmed suite upgrade coupon. However, for the first night, I was not able to get the suite upgrade. But when I checked in, I was given the suite upgrade, too. I’m not sure if they saw the 2 bookings or gave me the upgrade anyway. However, when I checked in, the staff did not realize I had 2 bookings.
Membership Perks
I am an IHG Platinum Elite Ambassador Club member and used 23,000 points per night. The stay came with 280k VND F&B and minibar credit drinks in the lounge with lounge access. Breakfast was complimentary. I was given 600 welcome points and 3 drink coupons.
Breakfast and Dining
The breakfast spread is awesome with a good variety such that I was able to eat a different meal for 3 days.
Transport and Location
We easily traveled to different parts of Hanoi from the hotel using Grab transport, paying US$2-3 per trip. From the airport, it was a 25-minute US$9 Grab ride.
Comparison with Old Quarters
I also stayed three nights in the Old Quarters. Staying in the Old Quarters is really convenient, as you can sightsee, dine, and shop locally by just walking around the area. However, you get a better rest at InterContinental Hanoi Westlake without the noise from the streets of the Old Quarters.
Length of Stay
There is not much to do in Hanoi though, so maybe 3 nights will suffice if you do not intend to venture outside the city.
