Location and Arrival
We are extremely pleased with the ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel in Kyoto. Although it is not in the most convenient place, it is situated just opposite the Nijo Castle.
Warm Welcome and Room Upgrade
We were warmly welcomed to the hotel by a friendly and polite team. My Platinum Elite membership was recognized, and I was given an upgrade to one of the newly renovated rooms.
Room Comfort and Space
The hotel room is spacious with plenty of room for us to move around and have our own space. My son has his own play area while I do my work at the workstation. It is very quiet and very comfortable, away from the busy central area.
Bathroom Amenities
The bathroom comes equipped with a bathtub, and you can use the bath powder provided in the room. The bathroom slippers are thick, plush type material.
Hotel Facilities
There is a hot bath, swimming pool, and sauna that is free for hotel guests. I tried the hot bath and sauna, and it is adequately equipped with all the essentials. I am glad I explored these facilities on the first night. Facilities close at 9 pm, and the last entry is at 8.30 pm.
Lounge and Dining
There is a nice manmade waterfall creating a beautiful backdrop for the small lounge. Note that the lounge closes at 8pm. We were not able to use our free drink coupons, so we changed them for 600 IHG points.
Transportation
Taking a taxi from the train station costs around ¥1800-2300. There is an hourly shuttle service that brings you directly to the Kyoto JR train station, taking around 15 minutes by car.
You can easily get to places of interest by bus near the hotel. A bus ride costs ¥230 for adults and ¥120 for children.
Overall Rating and Points
We paid 25,000 IHG points for a 2-night stay for 3 people in the most basic standard room and were assigned a newer room.
My rating is 4.5/5.
