Kimpton Seafire Resort Grand Cayman: A Point-Perfect Escape

Recently spent 8 days at the Kimpton Seafire Resort, Grand Cayman in Grand Cayman. I had wanted to try this resort for a while and had booked just before COVID-19, but then it was canceled. I managed to book 8 days on points at 70 000 as the rate was almost $1400 per night, so a points stay was a real bargain.
The resort is very large, and the majority of hotel guests were American and very few Europeans, but that should not deter anyone. It is a resort, and there are a lot of children here, which might not appeal to some guests, but my wife and I were not concerned about this. There are 265 guest rooms and suites, and most have ocean views. I would recommend booking one with an ocean view and the high floors you can see for miles, and it’s a beautiful view.
There are several restaurants onsite, but by far was the breakfast in Ave, which is every day till 11.00 am. The staff were so very accommodating and always went that extra mile to welcome us every morning. The restaurant manager, Laslo (apologies if that’s incorrect), made us feel so very welcome. In fact, several times, we both got a hug from him. He was so charming and welcoming every day. He always took us to a table outside, and nothing was too much trouble. The girls at the breakfast reception always had beautiful smiles on arrival, and leaving the breakfast gave us a wonderful start to the day.
There is the Kimpton wine hour in the hotel lobby, but it’s a bit of a free-for-all as people descend and appear to try to get as much as possible in an hour with people, arriving 15 minutes before and putting towels on the chairs and walking around in very little else. It didn’t bother us personally, but many people were commenting on it, and it did feel a little odd.
On our first night, we went down to the beach bar to watch the sunset at Coccoloba. It’s a fantastic setting, but we were disappointed at the taco offerings as they were not what we would have expected at the resort of this rating. The cocktails were great, and the setting didn’t disappoint, though, so you can forgive the food quality. It was not bad but should have been a lot better and presented well.
We did find some local food trucks along the beach that were excellent, and we ate a few times from these as they were so good. You can walk to some of these along the beach, but they close early.
Total impressions of your stay at Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa Cayman Islands
It’s a great resort, and we were not charged any resort fees for the stay, which was the result of it being renowned for $80 a night, so this was a huge saving. I would definitely go back, as we really enjoyed the stay, and the view from the room was just breathtaking. It’s worth hiring a car for some of the stays and taking a drive to some of the other areas of the island, like the Czech bar or the brewery tour, and seeing both the leeward and windward sides of the island.
