Marriott Bonvoy was included as a preferred Uber partner in December last year. For those who linked their accounts to start earning points on Uber spending, there are a couple of major updates that change how you earn points through the program.
- Earning Marriott Bonvoy points with Uber Groceries
- Increased minimum order for qualifying transactions to earn points
Here are details about these updates.
Earn Marriott Bonvoy with Uber Groceries.
Did you know that Uber Eats has a grocery delivery service? Uber Groceries is the ride-share platform’s response to services like Instacart and Shipt that lets users do their grocery shopping right from the app. It positions Uber as a go-to platform for food delivery, regardless if you want a restaurant or to cook for yourself.
Uber Groceries is the latest feature included in the partnership with Marriott Bonvoy. Members who linked their accounts will now earn Bonvoy points based on how much they spend.
- Get 2x points per dollar spent on Uber Groceries delivery
- Get 6x points per dollar spent on Uber Groceries delivered at a Marriott International property
Marriott and Uber have a limited-time offer for members ordering Uber Groceries for the first time. Your first order of $40 or more will earn 1.000 bonus Bonvoy points. To qualify for the bonus points, you must have a linked account BEFORE ordering and complete your first order by July 25, 2023.
If you haven’t linked your account yet, it only takes a few seconds here.
Uber Eats Minimum Order For Qualifying Transaction Increased
When the Marriott and Uber partnership was first announced, the minimum order for qualifying transactions with Uber Eats to earn points was $25. However, it raised the minimum to $40 to coincide with the minimum order on Uber Groceries. The minimum order is before discounts are applied, excluding taxes, delivery and service fees, and tips.
The previous minimum order was well within reach for many users of the delivery service. You can meet the $25 order minimum by ordering a single meal from your favorite restaurant. Getting a $40 minimum order every time is a bit more challenging since you’ll likely be ordering two meals.
The new order minimum is effective immediately. Double-check that you meet the new $40 minimum on your next order—otherwise, you won’t get any Marriott Bonvoy points. The new minimum means you’ll earn at least 80 points for every Uber Eats and Uber Groceries delivery and 240 points when delivered to a Marriott property.
Final Thoughts
If you’re a frequent Uber app user, signing up to earn Marriott Bonvoy points is a no-brainer. It lets you earn toward your next stay by doing activities you already do. There is no extra cost associated with earning points, so it’s a bonus on top of the Uber service.
One place where you might see an increase in spending is when you’re close to the $40 minimum and have to add one more item. Marriott and Uber want to incentivize members to use delivery services, especially to Marriott properties.
We recommend taking a few seconds to link your accounts and quietly earn Marriott Bonvoy points in the background while doing your regular spending with Uber.
